Introduction

The Tam Kong Festival falls on the eighth day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar to celebrate the birthday of God Tam Kong, a deity revered by fishermen. Residents in Coloane host an array of festival activities throughout the festival that pay homage to the local customs and traditions. In 2020, the festival was enlisted to the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Macao. The Macao ZengHui Opera Troupe has been invited to present Cantonese opera for several consecutive days that include both daytime and nighttime session.

The “Parade of Tam Kong Festival” is marked by a parade that travels from Rua da Cordoaria to Tam Kong Temple with music and dance performances along the way. A “Beer Carnival” is held at the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier Square, where visitors can enjoy a wide selection of beer and food while having fun.
