Introduction

What moves us to the faraway?
What brings us home?

A Chinese girl left home with great longing for the future, and reunites with her brother who has been running a business in America for many years. Out of her expectation, a mystery lays behind her brother’s glorious career while she is falling into a dangerous romance. At the same time, in order to protect the local ecology, the New York State Environmental Protection Department has just issued an alert, asking all citizens to kill an alien species which is flocking into the Hudson River. Nevertheless, such ‘dangerous species’ are being called as the ‘Chinese Mitten Crab’ on the other side of the earth.

The Present and the Past, Hometown and Faraway, Reality and Fantasy are wondrously intermingled in this show, bringing the audience a new perspective on immigration history.
The play leaps away from the classic sentimental descriptions of early immigrant writings, and refreshes with sharp and humorous tone, giving a vibrant narration of how different cultures project different imaginations even it refers to the same things. With the Chinese Mitten Crabs landing in New York, the ‘ dangerous alien species’ serves as a metaphor to highlight the hard life of different ethnicities faces in the modern city.

What is the concept of “being home"?
Why do we all yearn for moving to the Faraway?
Why are we afraid of the outsiders?
What is “home”?
