Macao Tea Culture House

  • Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida, Macao

Introduction

The Macao Tea Culture House is in Lou Lim Ioc Park, on Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida. It is the first museum in Macao with tea culture as the theme. As the gateway to export tea to the world, Macao has an abundance of valuable cultural heritage related to tea, in the form of poems and couplets centred on tea, drawings with tea as the theme, tea restaurants, tea shops, tea societies, tea houses, tea booths, tea art, and tea customs. There are also tea merchants and tea connoisseurs. All these have added colour to Macao’s small-town culture.

The Culture House was rebuilt with the original western-style architecture as its concept. The building itself features the southern European style and matches up with the other Portuguese architecture nearby. The Chinese horticulture in Lou Lim Ioc Park together with the Macao Tea Culture House help to illustrate the historical role of Macao as a melting pot of Chinese and western cultures. Since inauguration, Macao Tea Culture House has staged various short-term and long-term exhibitions, as well as tea culture activities. All these serve to demonstrate Macao’s tea culture and provide insight into Chinese and Western tea anecdotes, as well as promote the tea knowledge worldwide and enhance the study of tea culture.
